DANVILLE — With a former Hendricks County deputy and current sheriff’s candidate facing allegations that he drove under the influence of alcohol, Putnam County’s veteran prosecutor has been appointed to the case.

Terry Judy, a Republican candidate for sheriff in Hendricks, was arrested on April 10 on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

On April 14, Prosecutor Tim Bookwalter was appointed to the case in Hendricks County Superior Court 2 in order to “avoid the appearance of impropriety.”

On Thursday, Bookwalter formally filed two charges against Judy: Class A misdemeanor driving while intoxicated endangering a person and Class C misdemeanor driving with an ACE of .08 or greater.

Despite the embarrassing situation, Judy has released a statement saying he intends to continue his candidacy.
