Softball

North Putnam 16, Terre Haute North 12

North Putnam 6, West Vigo 5

A series of big innings helped the Cougars edge past the Patriots, who scored in every inning but still couldn’t keep the pace with the hosts despite leading three times and ties at 5-5 and 9-9.

Grace Kinked drove in three runs on two hits, including a double, while Kyndal Brewer and Ashley Weir drove in a pair of runs each, both also notching doubles, while runs were also driven in by Samie Hoops, Ashlynn Stacks, Brilye Schmitz, Callee Riggle and Karyssa Miller.

Brewer took the win on the mound in relief of Miller, who gave up five hits and five runs, one earned, in two innings, tossing five innings, giving up eight hits, seven runs, three earned, and striking out two.

In a very different game Tuesday, North Putnam waited until late to spring the trap against the Vikings, scoring five runs in the sixth inning and walking off after a Lexi Daigle grounder beat the West Vigo defense.

Miller doubled home a pair of runs in the sixth while Brewer and Willis also drove in runs during the rally.

Kinkead earned the win after pitching the final three innings, giving up a run and five hits. Brewer pitched the first four innings, giving up five hits and four runs, one earned, while striking out three.

Cascade 10, Greencastle 0 (6)

The Tiger Cubs were a hit batter away from being completely blanked by the Cadets as Elise Lausee earned the free pass.

Evelyn Briones took the loss, pitching five innings, giving up 11 hits, 10 runs and walking six batters.

Monrovia 5, South Putnam 1

South Putnam 9, Indian Creek 6

Jaicee Jackson hit a solo home run in the seventh inning but it was only consolation as the Eagles fell Monday to the Bulldogs.

Sabrina Leonard took the loss in the circle, giving up eight hits and five runs while striking out four in the seven-inning effort.

Tuesday brought along a better result as South Putnam scored in all six innings at the bat to beat the Braves.

Jackson added a two-run blast to the previous day’s homer, driving in three total runs while Leonard had a double and two RBI. Chloe Pistelli, Danae Cline and Alexis Phillips all drove in runs with Cline adding two doubles.

Leonard earned the win, throwing all seven innings for a second-straight game, allowing seven hits, five runs and four walks while striking out eight.

Baseball

West Vigo 10, Greencastle 0 (5)

The Tiger Cubs could only muster two hits Monday night against the 3A No. 6 Vikings.

Ben Huff pitched four innings, giving up eight hits and five runs while striking out two. Boyd Ensley also took to the mound, allowing a pair of hits and five runs while walking four batters.

West Vigo 13, North Putnam 0

The Cougars did not fare much better than their county rivals against the Vikings Tuesday night, only garnering a Jaylen Windmiller single.

Kovey Jeter took the loss, giving up nine runs, six earned, on five hits and five walks in two innings of work. Chase Hutto pitched three innings, giving up four runs on four hits and three walks while striking out a pair.
