Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated three recent property-damage crashes.

• At 12:11 a.m. Monday, Sharleen F. Mosely, 53, Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., was southbound on County Road 150 West in a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado hauling a Feather Lite horse trailer.

Deputy Robert Soilleux noted that at the time of the crash, there were heavy rains and strong winds in the area.

Mosely told Soilleux that a tree blew down in front of her and there was nothing she could do to avoid crashing into it. The impact caused visible damage to the front of the truck and the undercarriage of both the truck and trailer.

Mosely was uninjured and was unsure of the status of her horse in the trailer or the three dogs inside the truck.

The truck was driven from the scene. Soilleux estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 1:35 a.m. on Saturday, Charleton G. Knutson, 18, Chicago, was southbound on U.S. 231 in a 2011 Chrysler Town and Country.

Knutson told Deputy Soilleux she was following a car in front of her when all of a sudden she was in the ditch on the west side of the road. She said she did not know what happened because it occurred so fast.

Knutson was checked out by medics at the scene.

The van was towed. Soilleux estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 12:05 p.m. on Friday, April 22, Neva A. Brown, 18, Coatesville, was eastbound on County Road 75 North in a 2002 Toyota Echo.

Brown told Deputy Soilleux she swerved to avoid hitting a rabbit. This caused the car to run off the road and into a ditch, rolling onto its side and coming to rest in a cornfield.

The car was towed. Soilleux estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.
