County Jail

Seven people have been booked int he Putnam County Jail recently.

Sunday

• At 11:01 p.m. Ashley H. Wagner, 36, Terre Haute, was lodged at the jail on a warrant for nonsupport of a dependent.

• At 8:50 a.m. Joseph R. Colborn, 29, Martinsville, was taken into custody for possession of a controlled substance, possession of paraphernalia and on a Brown County warrant.

Saturday

• At 8:12 p.m. Andrea L. Vickrey, 30, Reelsville, was housed at the jail for burglary, two counts of theft and on an out-of-county warrant.

• At 8:06 p.m. Jeffrey B. Wehrman, 29, Roachdale, was booked in on an out-of-county warrant.

Friday

• At 5:56 p.m. Josh W. Joyner, 38, Indianapolis, was lodged at the jail on a warrant for criminal confinement.

• At 3:01 a.m. Sherwood H. Shook, 57, Bath, Pa., was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated.

Thursday

• At 1:53 p.m. Nacole A. Brewer, 33, Brazil, was housed at the jail on a writ of body attachment.

City Police

A 39-year-old Greencastle man was arrested on a half-dozen charges Friday after allegedly stealing a truck and attempting to evade police, Greencastle City Police officers reported.

• At 6:22 a.m., Daniel Smyser was arrested on West County Road 125 North by Sgt. Brad Hiatt.

Smyser was charged with motor vehicle theft for allegedly taking a 2001 Dodge 1500 truck owned by Michael and Sierra Garner from the Marathon station on North Jackson Street.

Lodged in the Putnam County Jail, Smyser also faces charges of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, resisting law enforcement, reckless driving, criminal recklessness with a vehicle and battery on a law enforcement officer.

Three recent citations were issued by city officers:

• At 10:50 p.m. Sunday, Cameron King, 28, Greencastle, was cited by Officer Alec Pettit.

Stopped on Indianapolis Road, King was issued a summons for operating without a valid license.

• At 11:30 p.m. Friday, Evan Hayes, 30, Brazil, was ticketed by Reserve Officer David Clodfelter.

Stopped on Indianapolis Road, Hayes was cited for disregarding a traffic control device.

• At 3:50 p.m. Thursday, Dylan Terry, 28, Greencastle, was ticketed by Officer Billy DeWitt.

Stopped on Washington Street, Terry was cited for driving with an expired license plate (Aug. 21, 2021)

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated three recent property-damage crashes.

• At 6:35 p.m. on Saturday, Alayna J. Oberkrom, 17, Cloverdale, was eastbound on West Walnut in a 2017 Honda Pilot. Lewis K. Kohler, 26, Cloverdale, was also eastbound in a 2004 Chevrolet Blazer.

Oberkrom told Deputy Todd Hopkins she braked to turn right onto County Road 200 West when Kohler rear-ended her.

Kohler said that Oberkrom braked suddenly and that eh could not avoid a collision on the wet asphalt. Two other witnesses also said that Oberkrom braked suddenly.

Hopkins estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oceaia N. Boetjer, 31, Brazil, was northbound on U.S. 231 in a 2006 Honda Civic. Madyson P. Williams, 19, Bainbridge, was southbound in a 2003 Toyota RAV4.

Boetjer told Deputy Josh Clark she was on her way home from work and must have fallen asleep. Her car crossed the center line and hit the driver’s side of Williams’ vehicle.

Williams said she came around the corner and noticed Boetjer’s vehicle in her lane. She tried to avoid a collision by driving in the shoulder but could not.

Both vehicles were towed. Clark estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 12:37 a.m. on Thursday, Martha Sullivan, 63, Brazil, was eastbound on County Road 100 South when the right side tire of her 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis left the roadway.

Sullivan explained to Deputy Tanner Brown that she oversteered and then lost control, crossing the westbound lane and leaving the north side of the road, where it hit a fence and turned a quarter turn left before sliding sideways to a stop.

Brown estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000. The car was towed.
