DePauw extended its win streak to seven following a doubleheader sweep of visiting Ohio Wesleyan by scores of 3-1 and 12-10. The Tigers improved to 17-15 overall and 8-6 in the NCAC, while the Battling Bishops dropped to 9-25 overall and 2-12 in conference play.

In the opener, Ohio Wesleyan took a 1-0 lead in the second as Sammy Stoner was hit by a pitch and stole second with two outs. Dillon Ysseldyke’s single to left center scored Stoner.

DePauw countered in the fourth as Kyle Callahan led off by being hit by a pitch before Danny Glimco and Brian May each singled to load the bases. Danny Sheehan drew a bases-loaded walk to plate Callahan.

The game remained tied until the eighth when Callahan drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second when Glimco reached on an error. May’s sacrifice bunt moved the runners up one base before Sheehan drove in Callahan with a single. Glimco scored by beating the throw to the plate after Sheehan attempted to steal second.

Cameron Macon and Sheehan each had two of DePauw’s eight hits, while two Battling Bishops players had one hit each.

Michael Vallone moved to 8-1 after tossing a two-hit, complete game and striking out nine. Gavin Pulliam dropped to 3-5.

In the second game, DePauw grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first on May’s two-run double. Ohio Wesleyan cut the lead in half in the second on Edrick Padilla’s homer.

Nick Nelson’s run-scoring double in the second made it 3-1 before the Battling Bishops evened the count with two in the fifth.

The Tigers took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth as Nelson drove in Brennan Roach with a double and Macon scored Nelson with a single to left. Sheehan’s two-run double made it 7-3 before Kyle Boyer drove in a pair with a single. May’s sacrifice fly in the sixth made it 10-3.

Ohio Wesleyan trimmed the DePauw lead to 10-8 with two in the seventh and three in the eighth, but Callahan’s solo homer in the eighth and Evan Barnes’ RBI double in the eighth pushed the lead to 12-8.

The Battling Bishops scored two in the ninth and had the potential go-ahead run at the plate, but a fielder’s choice force at second ended the game.

Nelson, Macon, May, Sheehan and Roach each had two of DePauw’s 14 hits. Davis Graham had three of Ohio Wesleyan’s 12 hits with Luigi Russo and D.J. Neff totaling two apiece.
