IHSAA sectional realignments make major changes in football; county schools in same volleyball, basketball sectionals

The IHSAA announced sectional realignments for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 school years this week with significant shakeups coming to football for the Putnam County schools.

Elsewhere, Greencastle’s drop into 2A paired it with the other county schools in boys’ basketball, girls’ basketball and volleyball.

The Tiger Cubs and North Putnam will be members of Class 2A Sectional No. 37 in football along with Cascade, Linton, North Knox, South Vermillion, Southmont and Sullivan, who also moved down into Class 2A.

South Putnam and Cloverdale will now be in Class A Sectional No. 47 alongside Covenant Christian, Dugger Union (beginning in 2023), Indianapolis Lutheran, North Central, Parke Heritage and Riverton Parke.

The four county schools will be in Class 2A Sectional No. 44 in volleyball, boys’ basketball and girls’ basketball alongside Parke Heritage, Riverton Parke and Southmont.

For boys’ soccer, Greencastle remained in Class 2A but will move to Sectional No. 29, joining fellow WIC schools Brown County, Edgewood, Indian Creek, Northview, Owen Valley and West Vigo, along with former WIC member South Vermillion.

North Putnam remains in Class A and will be in Sectional No. 41 with Bethesda Christian, Covenant Christian, Providence Christo Rey, Herron-Riverside and Traders Point Christian Academy.

Greencastle moved down to Class A in girls’ soccer and joins North Putnam in Sectional No. 41 with Bethesda Christian, Cascade, South Vermillion and Southmont.

Baseball and softball sectional alignments will be released following the conclusion of the 2022 season.
