Accident closes State Road 42 bridge over Mill Creek for repairs

CLOVERDALE -- The State Road 42 bridge over Mill Creek is closed until further notice, the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has announced.

The location is east of Cloverdale, near South County Road 750 E.

A vehicle recently struck the bridge and caused damage. The bridge will remain closed until the necessary repairs are completed and the bridge is safe to reopen. Additional repair work may also be needed in the future.

The official eastbound detour follows State Road 42 to U.S. 231 to I-70 to Little Point and back to SR 42. The westbound detour follows SR 42 at Little Point to I-70 to U.S. 231 back to SR 42.

INDOT will provide updates to the public on the status of the bridge.

  • State is going to have to do better job of blocking the bridge

    People are throwing the barricades out of the driving lane and going on thru, if the bridge is unsafe,state needs to do something!!

  • Becker, this is where natural selection might play a role. If you’re brazen enough to remove a barrier to cross a damaged bridge, maybe the my freedoms argument will meet the law of nature, which is the only original true law. Plus that area will likely get a new bridge. It’s a win/win.
