Crown Equipment, one of the world’s largest material handling companies, is dedicated to technological innovation and investment in its people. These guiding principles have led to the company’s continuous growth throughout its 77-year history.

The latest example is Greencastle High School and Area 30 Career Center senior Trevor Torr, talented son of Chris and Jennifer Torr, Greencastle, who recently signed an agreement to continue his career as a welder with Crown Equipment following his upcoming graduation.

Supporting the Area 30 Career Center and its welding internship program enables Crown Equipment to help develop the welders of tomorrow, company officials said.

Welding students like Torr who interview with Crown and are ultimately selected to participate in the internship program work in Crown’s Greencastle facility to learn on-the-job welding skills during the school year. After graduation, welding students can pursue full-time employment with the company, earning approximately $28 per hour after they have met the required proficiencies.

The cooperative effort provides students with the opportunity to pursue a rewarding, long-term career immediately after graduation, employing both traditional welding and automated robotic welding techniques.

Should they choose to continue their education, Crown also provides tuition reimbursement to full-time employees that covers course, lab and other fees for training that supports the individual’s career development.

  • Chris Torr, Trevor’s father and current Crown employee; Jennifer Torr, Trevor’s mother;

    The semicolons tell the real story here.

    I’m guessing his ability and hard work got him this opportunity. Nothing more, nothing less.

  • I applaud Area 30 and Crown for recognizing a High School Student who has chosen to work for a local company. I don’t know him, but I commend him for working hard for two years improving his skills. In an era where so many people complain about the work ethic of this generation, let’s celebrate the fact that this young man is going to make almost $50,000 a year with zero college debt and already has plans to be a productive member of society. Congrats!

  • I'd rather have a kid follow a path such as this and have a great career ahead of him, than have one with a French Art History degree with no employment prospects and a $200k student loan debt! Congrats young man!

  • This kid has a good future if he is smart with his money and plans ahead. Welding is a short career, make that money while you can and retire in style before the job kills you.
