Hike set Saturday at Fern Cliff

Monday, May 9, 2022

Clint and Cheyanne Maddox, a father/daughter nature-loving duo, will be leading a walk at Fern Cliff Nature Preserve on Saturday, May 14 at 9 a.m.

Clint is an avid birdwatcher with a knack for identifying local flora and fauna. Cheyanne enjoys the mindfulness of nature and follows the ideologies found in the art of walking.

Fern Cliff is bordered by the Snake Creek, which feeds Big Walnut Creek a few miles southwest of Greencastle.

Among its less-than-natural characteristics are a stark canyon and artifacts left behind by an early 20th-century quarry that mined sandstone and crushed it onsite for shipping to a bottle manufacturing plant in Terre Haute, where the sandstone was used to make the green coke bottles — plus ferns.
