Cougars roll to win over Clovers

CLOVERDALE - Three Cougar pitchers combined for a two-hitter, while Brilye Schmitz drove in four runs, as North Putnam defeated Cloverdale 10-0 in WIC softball action.

North Putnam got things going early in the first. Ashley Weir and Grace Kincaid each singled to start the inning. Brilye Schmitz then tripled to deep right scoring both. They would tack on another run in the third. Emma Williams singled and Kyndal Brewer drew a walk. Williams would later score on a pass ball to make it 4-0.

Starting pitcher Karyssa Miller pitched three innings of one-hit ball. Kaylee Johnson had the lone hit in that stretch for the Clovers. The Cougars went to the bullpen in the fourth. Grace Kincaid came in and threw 3 innings, giving up no hits.

North would blow the game open in the fifth, taking advantage of six walks. Schmitz again with the big hit in the inning bringing in two more runs. The Cougar would plate four in the inning to jump out 8-0.

A pair of RBI singles in the seventh from Emma Williams and Karyssa Miller added a pair of runs to put the game out of reach. The Clovers did add a hit by Abagayle Walton in the bottom of the seventh, but North would close it out from there.

North moves to 12-6 on the season. Miller picked up the win for the Cougars. The Clovers fall to 1-9 as Hailey Caulkins took the loss going four and a third.
