County Jail

Twelve people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Sunday

• At 10:57 p.m. Deborah L. Schadewaldt, 58, Cloverdale, was lodged at the jail for possession of paraphernalia.

Saturday

• At 3:51 p.m. Sandra R. Sanchez, 34, Greencastle, was taken into custody at the Walmart store for criminal trespass.

Friday

• At 10:54 p.m. Adam L. McCastle, 48, Greencastle, was housed at the jail for invasion of privacy.

• At 9:38 p.m. Trevor T. Bowman, 20, Indianapolis, was booked in for reckless driving and resisting law enforcement.

• At 7:20 p.m. Hope M. Ramey, 26, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail for driving with a suspended license.

• At 5:59 p.m. Julie A. Bailey, 45, Rosedale, was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated, driving a vehicle as a habitual traffic violator, possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia with a prior conviction.

• At 11:04 a.m. Brian K. Graham, 44, Indianapolis, was housed at the jail for possession of a controlled substance.

• At 2:07 a.m. Brian D. Hornaday, 41, Martinsville, was booked in for driving with a suspended license with a prior conviction.

Thursday

• At 11:19 p.m. Michael J. Travioli, 57, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail for driving with a suspended license.

• At 3:19 p.m. James B. Hendricks, 59, Plainfield, was taken into custody on a Hamilton County warrant.

• At 10:58 a.m. Michael L. Lambert, 72, Coatesville, was housed at the jail for battery against a public safety officer.

• At 10:48 a.m. Damon L. Hankins, 22, Terre Haute, was booked in on a Clay County warrant.

City Police

Vandalism to the men’s restroom at Robe-Ann Park is under investigation by Greencastle City Police.

According to Officer Nick Eastham’s report, the incident occurred sometime Saturday night or Sunday when an intruder or intruders ripped out the plumbing from beneath the sinks, tore the soap dispensers off the wall, threw them in the toilet and defecated on them.

Damage was estimated in excess of $100.

• At 4:14 p.m. Sunday, a hit-and-run accident was reported on Liberty Street, where a 1970 Ford F-250 truck owned by Jeff White, 69, Greencastle, was sideswiped by a small maroon passenger car. According to a witness, the car fled the scene heading north with a piece of the truck’s quarterpanel being dragged along with it.

Capt. Chris Jones listed damage to the truck at $2,000.

• At 11:21 a.m. Sunday, the rear window of a parked 2014 Chevrolet SUV was reported shot out in an incident that occurred between 11 p.m. Saturday and 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

The SUV is owned by Alicia Sims, 30, Greencastle, Capt. Jones reported. Damage was listed at $500.

• At 7:51 p.m. Friday, Dakota Lawrence Boyd, 19, a DePauw University student from Indianapolis, allegedly used a fake ID card in an attempt to buy alcohol at the Greencastle Kroger store.

Office Alec Pettit said Boyd will be charged with possession of a fake ID as a minor attempting to purchase alcohol, a Class C misdemeanor.

Police said once Kroger officials became suspicious of the ID card, Boyd left the store and was later found on campus. Three previous such incidents were reported at Kroger last week.

• At 12:40 a.m. Saturday, Donald Evans, 39, Roachdale, was arrested for criminal trespassing at Mini-Mall Storage, 620 Tennessee St., after Officer Petttit responded to the report of a suspicious male subject with a U-Haul.

• At 1 p.m. Sunday, James Jason Campbell, 43, Greencastle, was issued a citation from Officer Eastham.

Stopped on Fillmore Road near the IAC plant, Campbell was cited for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense. He also received a warning for having no license plate.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated one recent crash.

• At 8:21 a.m. on Friday, Bruce E. Bessell, 71, Cloverdale, was westbound on U.S. 40, approaching County Road 475 East in a 2014 Subaru Forrester.

Deputy Kyle Lee reported that Bessell apparently fell asleep, and the vehicle veered right off the road and traveled about 120 feet before hitting a concrete culvert, causing severe damage to the vehicle.

Bessell was conscious and alert, but was transported by Putnam County EMS to Putnam County Hospital for evaluation.

Jefferson Township Fire Department also assisted at the scene.

The vehicle was towed. Lee estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to 10 incidents between Thursday and Monday:

• At 1:09 p.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to Lucy Rowland Hall on the DePauw University campus for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 1:13 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 1:18 p.m.

• At 3:42 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched for a ditch fire on County Road 125 East. Firefighters found the fire at 3:48 and extinguished it with buckets of water. GFD went back into service at 3:57 p.m.

• GFD was dispatched on two consecutive runs to the International Automotive Components facility between Friday evening and Saturday morning.

At 10:29 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 10:37 and conducted an investigation, but no cause for the alarm was determined. GFD went back into service at 11:03 p.m.

At 9:10 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched for a water flow alarm. Firefighters arrived at 9:15 and found that water was coming up from the ground. Greencastle Utilities later arrived and shut off water to the facility while it was secured. GFD went back into service at 10:27 a.m.

• At 2:19 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to the apartments at 330 Greenwood Ave. for a person trapped in an elevator. Firefighters arrived at 2:22 and were able to free them. Power to the elevator was shut off. GFD went back into service at 3:09 p.m.

• At 4:46 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to 1109 S. College Ave. for a tree hazard. Firefighters arrived at 4:49 and found a tree hanging in power lines. A homeowner nearby advised that they still had power. GFD went back into service at 5:02 p.m.

• At 12:48 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to the DePauw-owned duplexes at 109 W. Hanna St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 12:52 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 12:58 p.m.

• At 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to the DePauw duplex at 304 S. Indiana St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 4:34 and determined the alarm was due to a faulty stove. The stove was unplugged and the alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 4:39 p.m.

• At 10:42 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to Dirks House on the DePauw campus for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 10:46 and could not determine a cause for the alarm. The alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 10:52 p.m.

• At 6:05 a.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to the area of 4180 S. CR 150 West for a tree that had fallen into a power line and was on fire. Firefighters found the tree at 6:18 and notified Duke Energy. GFD went back into service at 6:58 a.m.

Additionally, GFD performed 12 medical assists, had two disregards and found no incident on one run during this time.
