Rodney Cline set to retire from law enforcement Thursday
Having spent more than 30 years in some form of law enforcement, longtime local officer Rodney Cline will call it a career on Thursday, May 26, when he completes his last shift as a Putnam County animal control officer.
Cline began his career with the Greencastle Police Department at age 20 in 1977. He served as an officer before being promoted to detective.
After 10 years with GPD, Cline departed to join the airport police at Indianapolis International Airport, where he served for the next 15 years.
Cline was later back serving the citizens of his home community in 2015 when he was hired by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office as an animal control officer, a capacity in which he has served ever since.
He is retiring with 17 years of collective service in Putnam County and 32 years total.
His brother Randy Cline also served on the sheriff’s department, leaving in 1981 to join the U.S. Army Rangers, the capacity in which he was killed in action in 1983.
Rodney’s retirement plans include umpiring and enjoying some time on his farm.
