Mary E. Martin-Widener

Mary E Martin-Widener, 34, of Alexandria, died suddenly at her home on Friday, May 20, 2022.

She was born in Greencastle on April 8, 1988 and was the daughter of Charles and Jeanette (Wheeler) Martin.

On Oct. 24, 2019 she married Daniel Widener.

She was a graduate of South Putnam High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society and the manager of the girls’ varsity basketball team and played girls’ track, where she participated in the shot put and discus. Mary also graduated from Ivy Tech in Bloomington with an associate’s degree as a medical assistant.

She was employed by I Rhythm as an EKG tech.

Mary was a certified firefighter and EMT and was a former member of the Fillmore Community Volunteer Fire Department. She also was a member of the Rebecca Lodge Kapa Ladies, the Kinda Nerdy Girls Group and the Life Builder Community Church.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Daniel Widener; her son, Zeeke Widener; her parents, Charles and Jeanette (Wheeler) Martin; her grandmother, Doris “Sue” Martin; and her sisters, Kimberly N. (Jesse) Holt and Jennifer (Oakey) Nowlin. Also surviving are four nephews.

She preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, William “Bill” Martin; her material grandparents, Betty and Sherman Wheeler; and a niece, Adriann Holt.

A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, June 26 at 1 p.m. in the Fillmore Vol Fire Department. Burial of her cremains will follow in the Fillmore Cemetery.

The Bloodmobile will be present for anyone wanting to honor Mary’s memory by donating blood.

Bud and Susan Whetsel are honored and blessed to care for Mary and serve the Widener family once again.
