GCSC to provide free meals for children again this summer

Thursday, May 26, 2022

Every year when school ends, children who rely on school meals served at Greencastle Community Schools through the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs are at serious risk of going hungry. This is where the Federal Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) comes in and helps bridge the hunger gap.

As part of the USDA federally-funded Summer Meals program along with Greencastle Community School Corporation, the children will have nutritious breakfast and lunch meals again this summer.

Debbie Carrico, director of foodservice for Greencastle Schools, has organized this program for eight years and watches it grow every year. Being with the kids during the school year and seeing there are hungry children coming through the meal line makes a statement that the community has a need for this in Greencastle during the summer.

There will be a site at Robe Ann Park plus three schools and Elite Skyhawks. Last summer, daycare, babysitters, youth groups and athletic groups utilized the meal program.

This program is open to any child under the age of 18 that wishes to eat a free meal. The meals must be consumed at the site. and adults cannot eat from a child’s meal.

Free meals are available to all children 18 years of age and under. Meals will be provided to all children without charge or any paperwork. There will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.

Adults may purchase breakfast for $4 and lunch for $5.

Greencastle Middle School, Deer Meadow, Ridpath and Elite Skyhawks, will serve breakfast and lunch daily. The Robe-Ann Park Mobile Unit will serve lunch at Shelter House No. 2 by the skate park. See times below.

GCSC expressed its thanks to Greencastle Parks and Recreation for donating the use of the shelter house for for program.

TAXPAYERS FORCED to provide meals for children again this summer.

    Fixed your headline.

But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him?

If I choose to give, that is charity.

If I am forced to give, that is robbery.

If that robber is the government, that is tyranny.

  • You have to be one heartless human to worry that a few of your tax dollars are going to feed children!

  • What a wonderful program, kudos to Greencastle! So many families in need, the rising food and gas prices leave families to go without! I wish there was away to reach those families that cannot afford to drive to town daily to feed their children.

  • DPR….these meals are for CHILDREN. This is a WONDERFUL program.

Can’t you for once keep your heartless comments to yourself? Please don’t reply, (consider my question rhetorical PLEASE), as no one wants to hear more from you on this subject.

  • DPR once again proves what kind of person he is. This is a wonderful program that feeds hungry children.

  • DPR is out of touch with reality.

  • For the fun of intellectual discussion- lets say the program was dropped and each family who has signed up gets an appropriate amount of funding to purchase, prepare, and have the meals at home.

What percent would use the money to feed their children?

I think that answer would say why the program might be a good thing.

  • Hey DPR-

Tell me what you paid in local taxes.

Ill gladly see what I can do to fundraise to get that amount back to you.

Only if you promise to never post here again.

You are increasingly showing how awful you are.

Please retreat to your compound. We will not bother you if you don’t bother us.

LOL - please tell me, finger-waggers, where you would like to draw the line on government spending?

You, as private citizens, are free to spend as much of your own money as you wish to feed these children, or stray dogs, or Ukraine folk.

Yes, Nurse4Life, this means you are free to fulfill your wish on your own dime: "I wish there was away to reach those families that cannot afford to drive to town daily to feed their children." Go pick them up. Otherwise, you can sit down. Right next to KBMom.

As I have already stated - this isn't charity, it is tyranny.

You see "GCSC feeding local kids" and tune out the rest b/c you either lack or refuse to utilize critical thinking skills.

This isn't a locally financed charity, nor is it strictly a Greencastle program.

This is federal dollars being spent all across the country with no oversight. This program is probably costing BILLIONS of dollars under the "farm bill" that the government doesn't have. Does the national debt meaning nothing to you? Debt=slavery. And if we pay for this project, we have to pay for Senator Bob's project, and Rep. Anne's project. Learn how government is supposed to work, and then learn how it really works.

This program includes 18yr old MEN & WOMEN as children. They are not children, despite them being labeled so. They are adults.

It is sad that grown people like yourselves are so twisted in your mind. Perhaps some of you will start to get straight some day.

You would probably never consider walking into my house and stealing from me, yet you give the government your blessing to do that very thing. Do you think your hands are clean just b/c you use a proxy to rob me? Is it the shared oppression of tyranny that compels you (misery loves company)? Or perhaps you enjoy wielding power over others, if only by proxy? Twisted indeed.

If you cant take care of your children, don't have them. If it is a short term problem, there are LOCAL charities/food banks that are there to help. If you really want to help give it to them. Or directly to someone you know that is in need.

But do it of your own free will, and keep your hands out of my pockets. I will choose who shall receive my charity.

Gladys - as you wish to know the price of my silence on this forum, I shall tell you...

    $1 Million.

    And I accept your offer.

In exchange for $1 million dollars, I will contractually promise to never post on this forum again.

Or, you can join the others over there.

  • Let's just get the Banner Graphic to censor DPR forever. Easier and cheaper.

-- Posted by donantonio on Fri, May 27, 2022, at 8:07 PM
  • There’s a lot to unpack here. And some things to think about and dialogue about. But I cannot unpack feeding children=tyranny. That’s a bridge too far.

-- Posted by Koios on Fri, May 27, 2022, at 9:12 PM
  • Censor what you disagree with? Sounds very SSSLLC!

DonAntonio - spoken like a true tyrant who can't handle differing viewpoints so he calls upon the power of cancel culture. Remember, your comrades will one day be your enemies... its the way of tyrants... and some day you too will be an un-person.

I think my price is a very fair one for what everyone else is getting in exchange. In fact, I would say that if a compete accounting was made that I would be more economically advantageous than your Federal food program. (Again, learn how government spending works.)

Gladys offered to raise the money, but you don't have to donate if you do not wish. Are you seeing the parallel here?

Koios - that is a false premise. But you already knew that, didn't you? :) It isn't "feeding children" that is tyranny, it is using the threat of force to pay for it that is tyrannical.

If the shoe were on the other foot and you forced me to pay welfare to Elon Musk thru the government I would rail against that as well.

    And you do...and I will.

Elon Musk may be shrewd - by some accounts, not mine - for Tesla (which allowed him to do the other things) but under the surface of his success is a whole lot of "green energy" money that he gladly accepted from the government. The government bankrolled Musk, which is completely unacceptable as well.

I know it's difficult for a lot of you to understand principle (or government, or economics, or human nature, or psychology) and why it matters, but I assure you that it does.

Keep it up and you will compromise this country right into a corner... oh, wait.

  • Texas Governor Abbot admitted it today, we need more resources for mental health care. Let’s start there.

  • DPR since all you want to do is bash people who dare to post a comment, then be brave enough to post your full name! What do you do for a living? Do you live alone? Do you do anything to be involved in the community or do you sit behind a laptop and bash people? I would bet your single, not a Christian, lonely individual! Shame on you!!!! Why don’t you create a solution instead of being a bully!!! Shame on the Banner Graphic for allowing such disgusting behavior over and over again by this individual! DPR no need to respond unless you can be civil to other’s!!!! If he responds I say “Let’s boycott the Banner Graphic!”

  • Koios must be moving towards the middle and giving up the SSSLLC position/ behavior.

In a matter of approximately 1 week, went from a non pertaining to the article on mental health post to supporting a governor of the party he/ she hates regarding mental health!!!!

    Welcome aboard to the middle!

-- Posted by beg on Sat, May 28, 2022, at 3:22 PM
  • Nurse4me,

Just a thought- why respond? If you truly feel the response by DPR is awful, why spend the energy?

Also, do you believe in censorship when you disagree with someone? Do you believe the many mean words used by those who agree with you should be censored? Do you want to be censored if people think you are being mean, calling someone names, make negative assumptions about people, and have an opinion that many disagree with?

    Enjoy your weekend!
