Girls’ track season ends at Bloomington North Regional

BLOOMINGTON – The girls’ track and field season came to a conclusion Tuesday evening as representatives of the four Putnam County schools competed at the IHSAA Bloomington North Girls’ Track and Field Regional.

The host Cougars won the regional with a team score of 98.5 with South Putnam the top point producer among the county schools with five points, finishing in a tie for 24th. Greencastle picked up 2.5 points to finish in 28th place while Cloverdale and North Putnam did not have a place finisher.

Eagle sophomore Bailey Brickert was the closest to reaching the state finals, finishing fourth in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 15.77, .04 seconds behind third-place Audrianna Hale of Linton.

Elsewhere for the Eagles, Sarah Jones finished ninth in the 1,600-meter run in 5:47.33 12th in the 3,200-meter run in 12:36.69 while Lilly Vittetow was 10th in the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 50.87.

The Tiger Cub 1,600-meter relay team of Susanna Akinwole, Lauren Elam, Ali Dobbs and Kyra Bandy finished seventh overall in 4:22.18 while Kylee Owens tied for eighth in the high jump, clearing 4-10.

Akinwole just missed out on a place in the 200-meter dash finals, finishing ninth in 27.97 while Elam finished 14th in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.95. The 400-meter relay team of Akinwole, Elam, Dobbs and Autumn Shrum finished 12th in 52.43.

Cloverdale’s Olivia Hemmerling finished 12th in the 300-meter hurdles in 51.74 and Ella Szczerbik finished 13th in the 3,200-meter run in 12:44.82 while North Putnam’s Olivia Stewart finished 14th in the discus with a throw of 90-07.
