DePauw first baseman and May graduate Kyle Callahan (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville) has been selected as the 2022 Phil Eskew Award recipient as DePauw’s top senior student-athlete competing on a men’s team. Callahan will be DePauw’s nominee for the North Coast Athletic Conference’s Don Hunsinger Award.

The Eskew Award is presented annually to a senior student-athlete competing on a DePauw men’s team who best exemplifies effort and excellence in academics, athletics, leadership, integrity, dedication to the team, campus involvement and community service.

Callahan was a second team American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) all-region 7 selection this year after earning first team all-North Coast Athletic Conference honors. He hit .363 and equaled a DePauw single-season record with 13 homers along with team-highs of 46 runs scored, 52 RBI and a .767 slugging percentage. His 21 career homers broke the school record.

An inductee of both Phi Beta Kappa and Chi Alpha Sigma, Callahan graduated summa cum laude while majoring in biochemistry. Callahan was a captain of the baseball team as a senior and a four-year member of the team’s leadership council and served as a vice president of finance for the Future Medical Professionals organization. During his time at DePauw he volunteered with the DePauw Dance Marathon, the 5K for Mental Health, Good Samaritan Health Clinic in Indianapolis and the Lebanon Food Drive.

Other finalists for this year’s Eskew Award included Zac Bowman (football), Seth Fagen (swimming and diving) and Wyatt Metzger (tennis).
