MONTGOMERY — Greencastle finished the 2022 boys’ golf season with a 13th-place finish at the IHSAA Washington Boys’ Golf Regional Thursday.

“The course played very difficult as the Cubs had numerous penalties and lots of putts from the tough pin placements,” Greencastle head coach Steve Paquin said. “It’s not the way we wanted to end the season, but we didn’t give up and played hard to the last hole.”

Cloverdale sophomore Eli Kelley also participated in the regional and finished his season with a round of 88.

“Eli made Cloverdale proud today,” Cloverdale head coach Greg Thomas said. “He played Country Oaks in the Regional and it played extremely difficult.

“He battled through and shot an 88. Way to go Eli!”

Evansville North won its sixth-straight regional title with a round of 308, followed by Covenant Christian on 312 and Evansville Reitz Memorial on 319, a stroke ahead of Brebeuf Jesuit for third place. All three teams qualified for next week’s IHAA Boys’ Golf State Finals held at Prairie View GC in Carmel next Tuesday and Wednesday.

Damian Rij led the winning Huskies with a medalist round of 71, followed by Peyton Blackard of Gibson Southern and Ian Perry of Plainfield on 72. Blackard and Perry advanced to the state finals as individuals, as did Linton’s Jason Clark (74), Avon’s Vincent Villaneuva (74) and Blackard’s Titan teammate Ryan Islam (75).

The Tiger Cubs finished a stroke ahead of South Knox for 13th overall. Crawfordsville finished 12th on 342 while Attica Sectional winner Southmont finished 17th on 371. Martinsville Sectional winner Brownsburg finished fifth on 323, tied with Gisbon Southern but with the better fifth scorecard, while Plainfield finished a stroke back in seventh place on 324 on and Avon finished ninth on 332.

Keaton Parmley led Greencastle with a round of 81, followed by Lathen Worman on 88, Vincent Martoglio on 91, Tyler Rodgers on 94 and Zane Huber on 101.

“We will miss our three seniors, but we have adequate players coming back to take their place next year plus some players from a good middle school team,” Paquin said.
