County Jail

Five people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Sunday

• At 8:20 p.m. Allen L. Hodge, 43, Brazil, was lodged at the jail for driving while intoxicated.

Saturday

• At 9:41 p.m. Glen K. Miller, 57, Fortville, was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated.

Friday

• At 8:04 p.m. Brandon W. Wagner, 32, Reelsville, was housed at the jail for possession of methamphetamine.

• At 6:38 p.m. Timmy R. Steen, 59, Greenwood, was booked in for driving while intoxicated.

• At 12:52 p.m. Brent L. Wallace, 37, Spencer, was lodged at the jail on an Owen County warrant.

City Police

Four recent property-damage accidents were investigated by Greencastle City Police officers:

• At 11:10 a.m. Tuesday, a two-vehicle accident was reported at Warren Drive and Avenue D.

Officer Nick Eastham reported that Michael Hensley, 28, Greencastle, had stopped at Warren and Avenue D and began turning left onto Warren Drive in a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox, when he pulled into the path of a 2018 Ford F-150, driven by Alexandria King, 27, Greencastle, and a collision occurred.

Total damage was estimated at $1,000-$2,500.

• At 9:42 a.m. Saturday, a two-vehicle accident occurred on Houck Road at the railroad overpass.

Kyle Drykos, 28, Greencastle, was southbound on Houck Road, just north of the viaduct, when his 1997 Ford F-150 slid on rain-slickened pavement into the path of a northbound 2019 Ford F-150, driven by Aaron Albers, 46, and owned by Concepts Cabinet Shop, Avon.

Albers said he was unable to avoid the collision as the Drykos vehicle slid into his lane.

Total damage was listed by Officer Eastham at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 1:15 p.m. Friday, a minor mishap was reported on the parking lot at Jimmy Johns, 820 Indianapolis Rd.

Officer Eastham reported that Christmas Pickerel, 62, Rockville, was backing her 2015 Jeep Patriot when it struck a parked 2019 Chevrolet Impala owned by Eric Gibbs, Greencastle.

Total damage was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 9:07 a.m. June 7, a one-vehicle mishap was reported on the Greencastle High School parking lot off East Washington Street at Avenue D.

Angela Hiigel, 58, Greencastle, was backing a 2018 Ford Edge from a parking space and did not see a light pole with a concrete barrier, Capt. Chris Jones reported.

Total damage was listed at $1,000-$2,500.

Four recent citations were issued by GPD Officer Eastham:

• At 3:14 p.m. Sunday, Martin Nichols, 55, Coatesville, was issued two citations.

Stopped on Fillmore Road, Nichols was cited by having a false or fictitious registration, driving with a suspended license and given a warning for operating with an expired license plate (August 2021).

• At 2:15 p.m. Sunday, Garrett May, 20, Fairland, was ticketed for exceeding the 30-mph speed limit on Fillmore Road near IAC.

• At 9:33 a.m. Friday, Christopher L. Wilkinson, 43, Greencastle, was stopped at Indianapolis Road and Longcastle Drive.

Wilkinson was ticketed for operating with an expired license plate (December 2021).

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated a pair of recent property-damage crashes.

• At 10:05 p.m. on Tuesday, June 7, Christinea I. Winesberry, 23, Terre Haute, was westbound on U.S. 40 in a 2008 Toyota Corolla when she hit a deer.

Winesberry was complaining of head pain following the accident, but was cleared by EMS.

The vehicle sustained moderate damage, but was driven from the scene.

Deputy Todd Hopkins estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

•At 6:40 p.m. on Monday, June 6, Connor Rojas, 20, Greencastle, was southbound on U.S. 231 in the area of Rockstar Window Tinting and Visiting Angels in a 2013 Dodge Charger.

According to a witness, the Charger lost control on the west roadway, crossed into the northbound lane and came to rest in the ditch on the east side of the road.

Rojas was alert and talking after the crash, but was transported from the scene by EMS.

A friend of Rojas was able to drive the car to his house.

Deputy Hopkins estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to 14 dispatches since last Wednesday afternoon:

• GFD went on three consecutive runs to Lucy Rowland Hall on the DePauw University campus:

At 1:14 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 1:19 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 1:31 p.m.

At 3:13 p.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched for another fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 3:19 and again determined that the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 4:20 p.m.

At 8:37 p.m. on Thursday, GFD went back again for another fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 8:42 and again determined cooking as the cause for the alarm. The alarm system was reset. GFD went back into service at 8:45 p.m.

• GFD went on two consecutive runs to The Valyrian Place Friday morning:

At 2:19 a.m., GFD was dispatched for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 2:26 and could not determine an exact cause for the alarm. GFD went back into service at 2:46 a.m.

At 4:41 a.m., GFD was dispatched again for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived soon after and determined that there was an issue with the alarm system. GFD went back into service at 4:45 a.m.

• At 10:41 a.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to 5 E. Washington St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 10:42 and determined the alarm was malfunctioning. GFD went back into service at 10:45 a.m.

• At 9:07 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to 418 Anderson St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 9:08 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 9:14 p.m.

• At 11:34 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to Eli’s Books for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 11:38 and determined that the alarm had malfunctioned. GFD went back into service at 11:51 p.m.

• At 5:41 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to 420 Anderson St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 5:45 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 4:46 p.m.

• At 5:41 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to Humbert Hall at DePauw for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 5:45 and determined the alarm was due to hair spray. The alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 6:02 p.m.

• At 10:12 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to 413 Anderson St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 10:17 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 10:23 p.m.

• At 5:50 a.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to 900 Tennessee St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 5:58 and determined that a smoke detector was bad. GFD went back into service at 6:18 a.m.

• At 7:48 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to the apartments at 300 Greenwood Ave. for a person trapped in an elevator. Firefighters arrived at 7:53 and freed the person. GFD went back into service at 8:03 p.m.

• At 7:41 a.m. on Monday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle incident with injuries at 3118 S. CR 200 West. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 7:47 and assisted with patient care, as well as removed a tree off of the vehicle. GFD went back into service at 8:21 a.m.

Additionally, GFD performed six medical assists and had three disregards during this timeframe.
