Putnam County All-WIC, Academic All-WIC athletes for 2022 spring sports announced

With the conclusion of the spring sports season, the WIC has released its All-WIC Spring Athletes and All-WIC All-Academic Athletes for the 2022 spring sports seasons.

Athletes in baseball, softball and girls’ tennis named to the All-WIC team are chosen by the conference coaches of their respective sport.

Athletes in boys’ and girls’ track and boys’ golf earned All-WIC honors through their respective conference meets.

In total, 27 athletes earned All-WIC honors for the spring season with another 70 athletes earning either Academic All-WIC First Team or Honorable Mention status.

The following athletes earned All-WIC First Team honors this spring:

Baseball

Keifer Wilson, Greencastle — Hit .543 (44-for-81) in his final campaign for the 15-11 Tiger Cubs, both the average and hits new school records for s single season. Notched 11 doubles, a triple and four home runs, driving in 33 runs while scoring 25 times and stealing 19 bases. Only struck out seven times during the year, helping him to a .598 on-base percentage, a .851 slugging percentage and a 1.450 OPS for his senior year.

Behind the dish and on the mound, Wilson committed eight errors in 151 chances with 114 putouts and 29 assists, fielding at a .947 rate.

On the mound, Wilson was 8-3 with a 2.55 ERA across 55 innings, allowing 58 hits, 39 runs (20 earned), 16 walks and five hit batsmen against 93 strikeouts.

Treyten Clark, Greencastle — Started Tiger Cub career by batting .405 (30-for-74) driving in 26 runs and scoring 21 times with five doubles, two triples and two home runs. Struck out 17 times, drew 13 walks and stole 13 bases. Had an on-base percentage o .489, a slugging rate of .608 and a 1.097 OPS.

Was 1-4 on the mound with a 3.86 ERA across 41.2 innings, picking up five saves during the season. Allowed 61 hits, 38 runs (23 earned) and 14 walks while striking out 53 batters.

Kovey Jeter, North Putnam — Senior hit .333 (17-for-51) for 13-13 Cougars, driving in 19 runs and scoring seven times with four doubles.

Drew nine walks while striking out eight times for a .433 on-base percentage, a .411 slugging rate and a .845 OPS.

Manning first base when not on the mound, Jeter had 59 putouts, three assists and seven errors in 69 attempts for a .899 fielding rate.

Jeter had a 5.76 ERA in five appearances, allowing 25 hits, 23 runs (14 earned) and 12 walks against 19 strikeouts.

Jaylen Windmiller, North Putnam — Cougar junior hit .302 (16-for-53), scoring 19 times while driving in 14 runs with three doubles.

Windmiller drew 10 walks, struck out 14 times and stole two bases, leading to a .443 on-base percentage, a .358 slugging rate and a .801 OPS.

Found on the corner infield spots when not on the mound, Windmiller had 41 putouts, 16 assists and nine errors on 66 attempts for a .864 fielding rate.

Windmiller had a 2.47 ERA across 22.2 innings, allowing 17 hits, 10 runs (eight earned) and five walks against 27 strikeouts.

Brady Koosman, Cloverdale — Senior hit .333 (14-for-42) for the 5-11 Clovers, knocking in eight runs and scoring six times with two doubles. Struck out 10 times with two walks and three stolen bases for a .364 on-base percentage, a .380 slugging percentage and .745 OPS.

Between third base and the mound, had 20 putouts, seven assists and four errors in 31 attempts for a .871 fielding percentage. On the mound, Koosman was 0-0 with a 8.65, mostly appearing in relief with 11.1 innings of work, allowing 20 hits, 21 runs (14 earned) and walking nine while striking out nine.

Levi Hilton, Cloverdale — Clover junior hit .306 (11-for-36), scoring nine times and bringing in eight runs with two doubles and a home run.

Drew 10 walks with five strikeouts and eight stolen bases for a .447 on-base percentage, a .444 slugging rate and a .891 OPS.

Between the middle infield spots and the mound, Hilton had 23 putouts and 13 assists with three errors in 39 attempts, a .923 fielding rate.

On the mound, Hilton was 2-4 with a 8.60 ERA, allowing 58 hits, 48 runs (43 earned) and 22 walks with 18 strikeouts.

Ayden Battin, South Putnam — Eagle senior hit .409 (18-for-44) with three doubles and a triple, scoring nine runs and driving in three. Struck out 10 times, drew eight walks for an on-base percentage of .536, a .522 slugging percentage and a 1.059 OPS.

Primarily playing at first base, Battin had 26 putouts and an assist with only one error, fielding at a .964 rate.

On the mound, Battin was 0-2 with a 10.20 ERA in 11.2 innings, allowing 24 hits, 28 runs (17) earned with four walks, nine hit batsmen and six strikeouts.

Softball

Grace Kinkead, North Putnam — Senior hit .488 (40-for-82) for 18-8 Cougars, scoring 32 times and driving in 20 runs with nine doubles and a triple.

Stole 19 bases while drawing eight walks against only two strikeouts, leading to a .538 on-base percentage, a .621 slugging rate and 1.160 OPS.

Often at first base when not pitching, Kinkead had 65 putouts and 13 assists against three errors in 81 attempts in the field, good for a .963 fielding average.

In the circle, Kinkead was 5-1 in 17 appearances with a 2.91 ERA, allowing 49 hits, 39 runs (23 earned) 14 walks and four hit batsmen against 39 strikeouts.

Brilye Schmitz, North Putnam — Junior hit .436 (34-for-78) with 37 RBIs and 29 runs scored. Hit five doubles, four triples and five home runs, including two grand slams.

Stole 11 bases and drew seven walks against six strikeouts, leading to a .500 on-base percentage, a .794 slugging percentage and a 1.295 OPS.

Anchoring third base, Schmitz had 35 putouts and 29 assists against six errors in 70 attempts for a .914 fielding rate.

Emma Williams, North Putnam — Junior hit .481 (38-for-79) with 23 RBIs and eight runs scored. Hit seven doubles, a triple and two home runs. Drew eight walks against four strikeouts for a .534 on-base percentage, a .670 slugging rate and 1.205 OPS.

The backstop for the Cougars, Williams had 102 putouts and four assists against seven errors in 113 attempts, a .938 fielding rate.

Kendyl Brewer, North Putnam — Junior hit .479 (35-for-73), scoring 15 runs and driving in 29 with five doubles, three triples and four home runs.

Drew 15 walks against 10 strikeouts, leading to a .578 on-base percentage, a .794 slugging rate and 1.373 OPS.

Splitting time between the circle and first base, Brewer had 91 putouts and 17 assists against seven errors in 115 attempts, good for a .939 fielding percentage.

In the circle, Brewer was 7-3 in 19 appearances with a 3.17 ERA, allowing 84 hits, 57 runs (32 earned), six walks and six hit batsmen with 50 strikeouts.

Sabrina Leonard, South Putnam — Senior hit .443 (27-for-61) for the 9-15 Eagles, driving in 21 runs while scoring 20 times with seven doubles, three triples and a home run.

Drew 12 walks against eight strikeouts with six stolen bases, resulting in a .575 on-base percentage, a .704 slugging rate and a 1.280 OPS.

Between the circle, center field and first base, had 63 putouts, two assists and two errors in 67 attempts for a .970 fielding percentage.

In the circle, Leonard was 9-12 with a 5.05 ERA, allowing 135 hits, 107 runs (83 earned) 63 walks and 11 hit batsmen against 106 strikeouts in 115 innings.

Danae Cline, South Putnam — Eagle freshman hit .324 (22-for-68), scoring 22 runs while driving in six runs with four doubles, a triple and home run.

Drew 12 walks against eight strikeouts with five steals, leading to a .446 on-base percentage, a .455 slugging rate and a .902 OPS.

From third base, Cline had 50 putouts and two assists with six errors in 58 attempts, fielding at a .897 clip.

Sidney Lantzy, Greencastle — Junior hit a red-hot .528 (56-for-106) at the plate for the 12-15 Tiger Cubs, driving in 25 runs while scoring 34 times with eight doubles, nine triples and a home run. Set a new school record for hits in a season.

Had 15 strikeouts against four walks while stealing 23 bases, leading to a .545 on-base percentage, a .801 slugging percentage and 1.347 OPS.

From third base, Lantzy had 41 putouts, 25 assists and nine errors in 75 attempts for a fielding rate of .880.

Emma Hunter, Greencastle — Tiger Cub junior hit .444 (44-for-99) with 14 doubles, a triple and five home runs, driving in 34 runs while scoring 33 times.

Hunter stole 23 bases, struck out 11 times and drew seven walks for an on-base percentage of .486, a slugging rate of .757 and a 1.244 OPS.

From shortstop, Hunter had 64 putouts, 33 assists and 11 errors in 108 attempts, fielding at a .898 clip.

Erin Johnson, Cloverdale — Hit .343 (12-for-35) for the Clovers, scoring seven runs and driving in three runs with a double. Struck out just five times and drew five walks for a .425 on-base percentage, a .371 slugging rate and a .796 OPS.

Johnson committed one error during her junior year for a .980 fielding rate.

Girls’ Tennis

Maddie Landry, Greencastle — Was 16-7 playing at No. 1 singles for the 12-12 Tiger Cubs, who won the Greencastle Girls’ Tennis Sectional Title and reached the Crawfordsville Regional final.

Brinlee Clark, South Putnam — Earned All-WIC honors playing No. 1 singles for the Eagles.

Boys’ Golf

Keaton Parmley, Greencastle — Earned medalist honors at the WIC Golf Match with a round of 70. Was medalist at the Putnam County Golf Match two days prior with a round of 35 and finished tied for runner-up at the Attica Sectional with a round of 75. Shot 80 in the regional round.

Tyler Rodgers, Greencastle — Finished as runner-up at the WIC Golf Match with a par round of 72. Tied for fifth at the Attica Sectional with a round of 83. Shot 94 at the regional round.

Zach Thomas, Cloverdale — Finished third at the WIC Golf Match with a round of 73. Finished tied for third at the Putnam County Golf Match with a round of 39.

Max Kaufman, Cloverdale — Finished fourth at the WIC Golf Match with a round of 75. Finished tied for third at the Putnam County Golf Match with a round of 39.

Eli Kelley, Cloverdale — Finished sixth at the WIC Golf Match with a round of 79. Finished tied for fifth at the Putnam County Golf Match with a round of 40. Qualified for the Washington Regional as an individual with a round of 81 at the Martinsville Sectional. Shot 88 at the regional round.

Vincent Martoglio, Greencastle — Finished tied for 12th at the WIC Golf match with a round of 82. Finished as runner-up at the Putnam County Golf Match with a round of 38. Shot 91 at the regional round.

Boys’ Track and Field

Gabe Garcia, North Putnam — Won the 110-meter hurdles (15.47) and 300-meter hurdles (40.90). Won both events at the Terre Haute South Sectional (110: 16.08; 300: 40.96) and fourth in the 300-meter hurdles (40.37) in the Bloomington North Regional

Nolan Hackleman, North Putnam — Won the 400-meter dash (52.40) and the long jump (19-10.25). Won the 400-meter dash at the Terre Haute South Sectional (51.68) and finished second in the long jump (20-02.50). Finished fourth in the 400-meter dash in the Bloomington North Regional (52.72)

Girls’ Track and Field

Bailey Brickertt, South Putnam — Won the 100-meter hurdles (16.61). Finished second at the Terre Haute South Sectional (15.99) and fourth at the Bloomington North Regional (15.77).

Academic All-WIC

Members of the Academic All-WIC team are juniors and seniors who participated in a spring sport and met or exceeded a set GPA benchmark.
