Betty Jean Giddings

Betty Jean Giddings, 101, of Greencastle, passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2022, at Autumn Glen.

Betty was born in Platte, S.D., on June 28, 1920, the daughter of Wilbur D. and Fanlou (Priest) Grimes.

She was a 1938 graduate of Greencastle High School.

Mrs. Giddings worked for more than 30 years with Greencastle Federal Savings and Loan, now Old National Bank. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and a former member of First Christian Disciples of Christ and Women’s Organization.

Survivors include her daughter, Nancy Noel (husband Richard “Dick”) of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; a son, Lawrence D. “Larry” Giddings (wife Ann) of Newmarket, N.H.; four grandchildren, Christopher Giddings, Gretchen Stark (husband Jeremy), Tom Noel (wife Kelly) and Brandie Jessie; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lawrence Murl Giddings; three brothers, Jerry, Robert and Keith Grimes; and two sisters, Winifred Neal and Mary Frances Straight.

Services will be held on 1 p.m. on Friday, June 24, 2022, at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home with Rev. Libby Manning officiating. Entombment will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from noon until time of service Friday.
