Greencastle man taken into custody on Lawrence County warrant
A Greencastle man is in jail on attempted murder and other felony charges out of Lawrence County after Indiana State Police located him Wednesday.
William R. Blackwell, 40, was wanted for Level 1 felony attempted murder, Level 1 felony burglary, Level 3 felony aggravated battery, Level 5 felony battery by means of a deadly weapon, Level 5 felony battery resulting in serious bodily injury and Level 6 felony intimidation.
Around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Trooper Colton Maynor was attempting to locate Blackwell when he noticed a vehicle that Blackwell was known to operate in an apartment complex in Greencastle.
Trooper Maynor, along with other law enforcement officers including the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and Greencastle Police Department, received information that Blackwell was located in one of the apartments.
The information was confirmed, and Blackwell was located within an apartment and taken into custody without incident.
Blackwell was transported to the Putnam County Jail where he is awaiting extradition back to Lawrence County.
No information has
been released on the original Lawrence County Case. An online search of Lawrence County court records, while yielding a number of criminal cases related to Blackwell, did not have any matching this set of charges.
Blackwell has no criminal history in Putnam County courts.
