Darrel Bunten to resign as Fillmore town marshal
FILLMORE — Citing various circumstances which have led to the decision, Darrel Bunten has stated his intent to resign as Fillmore’s town marshal.
In an email sent Thursday afternoon to officers of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and Greencastle Police Department, as well as the Banner Graphic, Bunten advised that he had called Fillmore Town Council President Meredith Trusty to verbally inform him of the decision and asking for no more pay to be issued.
Bunten specified that he would submit an official letter declaring his resignation soon, with his last day being set on July 7. As such, he provided that the position would be advertised in the Banner Graphic.
“There are several circumstances leading up to this decision over the course of the past couple of years,” Bunten said in the email. “I have never quit anything in my life, but there’s a first time for everything and for me now is the time.”
Bunten’s intention comes as Fillmore residents have recently expressed concern about coverage in the town. While the town marshal works on a part-time basis, Bunten is full time with the Greencastle police.
Bunten has been Fillmore’s town marshal since he replaced Tom Helmer in 2009.
