Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated a pair of recent property-damage crashes.

• At 4:47 p.m. on Monday, Shaylin M. Campbell, 22, Greencastle, was eastbound on County Road 300 South in a 2005 Chevrolet Aveo. Shelia L. Pennington, 59, Brazil, was westbound in a 2021 Lincoln MKT, attempting to turn south onto County Road 300 West.

Pennington told Cpl. Brian Helmer that as she was attempting to make the left turn, Campbell, who was traveling at a high rate of speed, ran into the side of her vehicle. Pennington also said Campbell had been eastbound in the westbound lane.

Campbell said she was lost due to a detour. She told Helmer she was going approximately 40 mph. However, the deputy told her there were a lot of skid marks for her to have only been traveling 40 mph, at which she said she might have been going faster.

Helmer noted there is a hillcrest west of the intersection that restricts visibility in both directions.

He estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000. Both vehicle were towed.

• At 10:06 a.m. on Monday, Lois Luedeman, 77, Brazil, was stopped on Medic Way at the intersection with Hospital Drive in a 2021 Chevrolet Equinox. Kelsey McClain, 34, Plainfield, was stopped behind Luedeman in a 2012 Toyota Corolla.

Both drivers told Cpl. Scott Ducker a large truck was attempting to turn onto Medic Way.

Luedeman attempted to back up to give the truck room, not realizing that McClain was right behind her and backed into her car.

Ducker estimated damage at less than $1,000.
