Bainbridge VFD seeking volunteers

BAINBRIDGE — The Bainbridge Volunteer Fire Department is appealing to the community for more to become volunteer first responders.

Bainbridge Fire Chief Kevin Thorson notes that the department responds to 200-plus calls a year, covering various emergencies apart from fires and motor vehicle incidents. As the community grows, the number of responses increases.

“These are your friends and neighbors who live in the community and stand ready to save lives and protect property,” Thorson stated. “Volunteer firefighters and emergency medical service providers are a special kind of people, and we are looking for members to help answer the call.”

The department relates that training and gear can be provided, along with vendor-supported benefits and pay for individual responses. Members can also be involved with fundraising and administrative duties.

An open house at Bainbridge VFD’s station is scheduled for April 22 from 8 a.m.-12 p.m., with another one later in the year on Nov. 18. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the members, check out the equipment and ask questions.

Persons can also support the department with tax-deductible donations. These can be made payable to: Bainbridge Volunteer Fire Department, 500 W. Pat Rady Way, Bainbridge, IN 46105.

Those with questions may contact the department at 765-522-3204 for more information.
