Former SP athletes earn HCAC honors at Manchester
NORTH MANCHESTER -- The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced the 2023 Men’s Tennis All-Conference and major award winners on Thursday, April 27. Two Manchester University Spartans were honored by the league office this year.
Manchester senior Austin Arnold (Coatesville, South Putnam) earned First-Team All-Conference honors on Thursday. Arnold has been a staple of the men’s tennis program for the past four years. Serving as team captain this season, Arnold competed at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, finishing with a pair of wins. Arnold was named Honorable Mention All-Conference as both a junior and sophomore and finishes his Spartan career with a total of 14 wins in singles play.
Brennan Beachy (Goshen, Westview) earned All-Conference Honorable Mention honors by the league office on Thursday. Beachy earned four wins at both the No. 2 and No.3 singles position while picking up a pair of wins at the No. 2 doubles spot. Beachy helped lead the Spartans to their first conference win since the 2018-19 season with an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles.
Arnold is majoring in Professional Sales.
Manchester University first-year Sabrina Leonard (Fillmore, South Putnam) earned Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Softball Hitter of the Week honors, the league announced on Monday, May 1.
Leonard had a .368 batting average this week as the Spartans went 4-2 with two HCAC sweeps against Anderson and Bluffton. On the week, Leonard scored six runs with three RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base.
On the year, the first-year currently leads Manchester this season with a .557 slugging percentage, .473 on base percentage, 28 RBI, and 39 hits.
