Betty Louise Wheeler

Betty Louise (Scott) Wheeler, 93, of Belle Union, passed away on Friday, May 19, 2023.

She was born on April 23, 1930, in Hammondsville, Ohio, in Jefferson County to Verlin H. Scott and Dorothy Elizabeth (Call) Scott. She attended schools in Brilliant, Steubenville and Wintersville, Ohio before moving to Belle Union in 1943, where she graduated from Belle Union High School in 1948.

Betty was a member of Walnut Chapel Friends Church for more than 60 years.

She married Eldon M. Wheeler on Aug. 3, 1949 at Union Valley Baptist Church in Belle Union. Betty worked for Central National Bank in Greencastle for four years and then became a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, playing the piano and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, father- and mother-in-law, Austin and Rose Wheeler, sisters Dorothy Keller and Janice Jester and a nephew, Mark Jester.

She is survived by two daughters, Sandra Sue Garner (Charlie) of Plainfield and Carla Marie Stierwalt (Phil) of Belle Union; a son, Eldon Neill Wheeler (Kim) of Mooresville; two granddaughters, Angela Barszczowski (Phil) and Megan Robinson (Brett); three grandsons, Phillip Stierwalt (Maria), Jeremy Stierwalt (Amy) and Ian Wheeler; five step-grandchildren, Chris Garner, Felicia Francis, Justin Allbright, Grace Allbright and Joshua Allbright; and eight great-grandchildren, Olivia Stierwalt, Liam Stierwalt, Luke Stierwalt, Noel Stierwalt, Ella Stierwalt, Dane Barszczowski, Clay Barszczowski and Russell Robinson. Other survivors include brothers-in-law James Jester, Ancel Keller and Jack Wheeler (Linda) and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held 1 p.m. on Friday, May 26 at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home in Greencastle with Josh Fitzsimmons officiating. Burial will follow in Walnut Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until time of service on Friday.
