Cloverdale council approves police updates

CLOVERDALE — With Town Manager Jason Hartman and two members absent, the Cloverdale Town Council gave its blessing to police upgrades in a short meeting Tuesday.

Noting that some work has been done to update the Cloverdale Police Department’s office space at the town hall, Town Marshal Adam Hull approached about a new computer and a quote to repaint the space.

The new computer will go to the department’s sergeant, as he does not have one currently. While a monitor was available, the quote Hull presented was for a new tower, keyboard and mouse.

“He’ll use it to do all your personnel files that he does, training records, stuff like that,” Hull said.

Hull provided that the department’s donation fund could cover the purchase, which was not specified. However, Clerk-Treasurer Kelly Maners said the operating budget could do so, as two new computers were budgeted this year.

As to repainting the office space, specifically the walls and trim of five rooms, Hull presented a written offer that was not stated out loud. However, it provided prices for both one-coat and two-coat jobs.

While Hull said that he asked for three quotes, one was verbal and the other was non-responsive. However, he assured that the verbal quote was “about double” the written one.

Maners said the project could also be covered by the operating budget, rather than the donation fund. Still, Hull stated that the latter could supplement the purchase if needed.

In other business:

• With no action required, Maners presented an annual report concerning the town’s redevelopment commission. Maners noted that it was due to the state by Monday.

While it was not detailed at the meeting, the report outlines the redevelopment commission’s revenue and spending in 2023.

With Hartman and councilmen Larry Fidler and Brice Howell absent, Town Attorney Richard Shagley joined Hull, Maners and councilmen Greg Jay, Brandon Tancak and Scott Stierwalt for the meeting.

The next regular meeting of the Cloverdale Town Council is set for Tuesday, May 14 at 7 p.m. at the Cloverdale Town Hall.
