Alexa Newby awarded Farm Bureau scholarship
A South Putnam graduating senior is one of three students statewide who have earned a new scholarship from Indiana Farm Bureau.
INFB has introduced the Ag Impact Scholarship, which aims to highlight students who demonstrate an impact on Indiana agriculture.
One of the three recipients of the $2,000 award is Alexa Newby.
The Ag Impact Scholarship program is focused on an applicant’s current involvement, future commitment and potential impact in agriculture, as well as their academic and career potential. The funds can be applied to tuition, housing, books or other educational expenses.
Newby has served as secretary for South Putnam’s FFA chapter and National Honor Society, and is also a member of the Student Council. She is also on the varsity golf team and is the varsity basketball manager.
Newby created her own business three years ago, Alie’s Annuals, through which she sells flowers to the community. The business served as FFA’s spring fundraiser.
Newby will attend Purdue University in the fall, where she will pursue a degree in landscape architecture.
Additionally, North Putnam graduate Jayden Simpson was named for one of two $1,000 scholarships offered to members of the Collegiate Farm Bureau chapters at Purdue and Vincennes and Huntington universities.
Currently at Purdue, Simpson is majoring in agricultural economics.
