The first Putnam County golf match of the 2024-25 season went the way of South Putnam Wednesday afternoon over Greencastle at Tiger Pointe GC.

With four scoring golfers, the Eagles had a tally of 268, led by Bella Fanning on 64, Faith Wiggins on 66, Mollie Huber on 68 and Lydia Roderick on 70.

“Bouncing back and forth, I didn’t get to see everything but we definitely need to work on driving off the tee,” South Putnam head coach Jill Nelson said. “We also need to take our time on the green, something that needs work across the board.

“We weren’t thinking through a lot of things, just rushing along. We’re using our first match as a benchmark and going from there.”

Tiger Cub Emma Callahan took medalist honors with a round of 58 but was still the only golfer available for the hosts.

“Emma has been medalist for the first two matches of the year but shot much better on Monday,” Greencastle head coach Brad Kingma said about Callahan, who shot 50 on the same course against Monrovia in the season opener on Monday. “She had trouble around the greens, which affected her putting.

“We’ll be working on that in the next few days.”

Both teams return to action Monday with Greencastle hoisting North Putnam and South Putnam traveling to Danville.
