State Fair to commemorate 60 years since Beatles performed in Indy
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana State Fair has a full day of celebrating The Beatles during the State Fair, and just announced another celebration coming this September.
The State Fairgrounds will host a 60-year anniversary celebration on Tuesday, Sept. 3 in the Indiana Farmers Coliseum. The 1964 “Seems Like Yesterday’ event will feature a live listening session of the original audio from the 1964 performance, followed by a performance by the band 1964, performing The Beatles’ original set list.
General admission tickets are $5, the same price from the 1964 show, with $25 floor tickets available as well. All tickets are on-sale now at indianastatefair.com. The special $5 general admission tickets are available while supplies last.
On the same date, 60 years to the day the Indiana State Fairgrounds will commemorate the band’s appearance with the same venue (Indiana Farmers Coliseum) used in which The Beatles performed.
A special Beatles-themed art installation will be unveiled. The piece created by Indiana artist Cory Heimann is a large-scale permanent installation made out of Rubick’s Cubes.
Fans will want to come early and participate in a pre-concert listening party in the venue where The Beatles performed. This will feature a playback of the actual show from 1964 that was broadcast over the airwaves at the time.
The same set list will be performed by 1964, the tribute live in concert.
The Beatles toured the world in the early 1960s, but now only a precious few remain who actually saw them live, who actually felt the “mania” that brought them to world acclaim. Today, all that remains are a few scant memories and some captured images in pictures and on poor quality film and video.
