Volunteer firefighter Robert "Bob" Nichols, 70, walked into a surprise party celebrating his 50 years of service to the Jefferson Township Volunteer Fire Department April 23. Having been told he was needed at the station, Nichols had started to go straight to the fire engine before Fire Chief Rick Cooper lead him to his own party. Nichols was presented with a plaque, framed memento box, a large glass mug from residents Terry and Yvonne Clifford, and a 50-year gold pin from the Indiana Volunteer Firefighters Association.
