Man injured in one-car crash
A Greencastle man was injured Wednesday night after crashing his car through a fence and into a field on West Walnut Street Road.
Brian Erwin Kinpon, 33, was driving eastbound at approximately 8:54 p.m. when he lost control of his 1995 silver Volvo. A witness to the accident told Putnam County Sheriff's Deputy Ronnie Campbell that the car rolled at least four to six times before coming to rest approximately 125 feet from the road.
Members of the Greencastle Fire Department and Putnam County Operation Life helped to extract the driver, who according to Campbell, suffered a possible broken arm and nose.
Kinpon told authorities that he lost control of his car after it slid on ice. However, Campbell said that there was no ice on the road, due to unseasonably warm temperatures, and suggested that excessive speed was a likely contributor to the accident.
The driver was taken to Putnam County Hospital for medical treatment and a blood-alcohol test. Though Campbell was unable to estimate property damage, he said that the driver was lucky to have escaped more serious injuries.
