GHS captures county tournament

The Greencastle junior varsity baseball team won the Putnam County Championship on Saturday by defeating Cloverdale and North Putnam.

In game one, the Tiger Cubs defeated the Clovers 16-4 on the strength of home runs by Jesse Vermillion, Kevin Drake and Nataniel Velasquez.

Landon Patterson pitched a complete game for GHS, giving up four runs on nine hits and two errors. He struck out 11 Clovers.

In the championship, Greencastle defeated the Cougars 8-4 on Vermillion's complete game. The freshman allowed six hits while striking out 10.

Velasquez, Tyler Rickenbaugh and Kenny Buchanan each had multiple hits.

The wins moved the Tiger Cubs' record to 10-4.
