Cougars open season with loss to Panthers

MONTEZUMA -- The North Putnam volleyball team fell in five games to Riverton Parke Monday.

After dropping the first set 25-12, the Cougars rallied to take the second 25-22 and the third 27-25. North Putnam fell 25-13 in the fourth set and lost the match after losing the fifth set 15-8.

"We played well at times," NP head coach Jill Schreiber said. "We are very young, with three sophomores that haven't played in a varsity game. With only four returning varsity players, it makes a big difference."

Schreiber noted that the Cougars need some work on their passing, but that she is seeing improvements that the team is making from last year's team.

The Cougars will host the Early Bird Tournament Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.
