Cloverdale falls in four sets to Vikings
CLOVERDALE -- The Cloverdale volleyball team opened its season with a four-set loss to West Vigo Tuesday. The Clovers lost 17-25, 25-20, 19-25 and 22-25.
Bradanne Toney had a strong night for CHS with 17 kills, four blocks, two aces and four points, while Holly McCammon added five kills, two aces and 11 points. Breegan Andersen chipped in two kills, one ace and three points and Taylor Jones recorded two kills, one block and two points.
Mariah Oetken had one kill, one block, one ace and five points for Cloverdale, with Stacia Shepherd adding three aces and 12 assists. Bristy Skiles had 10 assists and two points and Paige Gruener had an ace and three points.
The junior varsity lost to two sets, 17-25 and 16-25 to West Vigo. Kourtney Hubbard led the junior varsity with nine points.
"We played well at times, but must concentrate on passing the ball and cutting down the number of freeballs given up to our opponents," CHS head coach Kathy Moore said. "Once we get more consistency in passing then everything else should improve. It is great to be back coaching again and it was wonderful to see the large crowd in our gym tonight."
