On Saturday, April 13 members of the Greencastle High School Band participated in the ISSMA Organizational Contest at Northview High School in Brazil.

The 69-member band was entered in Group III. The band performed "The Golden Eagle March" by Harold Walters, "Simple Gifts from four Shaker Songs" arranged by Ticheli, and "Rise of the Firebird" by Steven Reineke.

The band received gold ratings from all three judges. They then participated in the sight-reading portion of the contest and received a gold rating.

It marked the 15th consecutive year that the GHS band has received a gold rating in sight-reading.

On Thursday, April 25, the band will be leaving for New York City, where it will perform at the Sony Building in downtown Manhattan, as well as do sight-seeing, attending a performance of "Phantom of the Opera" and concluding with a dinner/dance cruise in the New York harbor.

The band is under the direction of Robert Hedge.
