James 'Buddy' Madison Lucas

James "Buddy" Madison Lucas, 93, of Clay City, passed away Monday, April 29, 2013 at Good Samaritan Retirement Community, in Jasonville.

He was born Nov. 28, 1919, in Farmersburg, the son of William and Sylvia Ann (Yates) Lucas.

Jim was a graduate of Hymera High School.

He served his country under Gen. George Patton during World War II in Normandy and North Africa.

He was wounded during the invasion of Normandy and was flown to a hospital in England. There he met his wife Joy and married her in England on March 24, 1945. She preceded him in death.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Becky Lynn Lucas; a grandson, Darrin Lucas; a sister, Lodean Russell; a brother, Wayne Lucas; and a brother, Harold.

Jim is survived by his son, David Lucas and wife Sue of Greencastle; three daughters, Mary Ann Buis and husband Art of Peoria, Ill., Sheila Middleton and husband Bob of Bloomington, and Linda Hubbard and husband Rick of Bloomington; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; brothers Earl Lucas and wife Pauline of Spencer, and Paul Lucas and wife Norma of Poland; sisters Naomi Crist of Hymera, and Wilma Hilst of Terre Haute, as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members.

A time of remembrance will be held at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, Clay City, at 7 p.m. Friday, May 3.

Military services will be provided by the Clay City Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion as well as members of U.S. Army.

Friends are welcome to join his family in visitation Friday from 4 p.m. until time of services.
