Baseball draws set for 2013 postseason

The Indiana High School Athletic Association announced pairings for the 2013 baseball postseason on Tuesday. Sectionals begin on Wednesday, May 22, with sectional finals on Monday, May 27.

2013 West Central Conference and Putnam County champion North Putnam (18-3-1, 9-1) drew a first-round bye. The 3A Cougars will play their first sectional game on Monday, May 27 at 11 a.m. at North Montgomery High School.

They take on the winner of Wednesday's game between Lebanon and Frankfort.

NPHS beat Lebanon 9-6 on April 27 and has not played Frankfort this season.

Greencastle, also in 3A, opens against Edgewood High School on Wednesday, May 22 at 5:30 p.m. GHS plays in the West Vigo Sectional.

The Tiger Cubs (6-10, 3-6) did not play Edgewood during the regular season.

Should GHS advance, it would take on the winner of the Brown County-West Vigo game on Thursday, May 23 at 5:30 p.m. The West Vigo Sectional championship game is on Saturday, May 25 at 7 p.m.

Cloverdale and South Putnam both play in the 2A Speedway Sectional.

The Clovers (17-5, 7-2) begin the postseason on Wednesday, May 22 against WCC-rival Monrovia at 5 p.m. CHS beat Monrovia in both regular season games this year by a combined score of 17-4 on April 8 and 9.

South Putnam will take on Covenant Christian in a game immediately following Cloverdale.

The Eagles (3-15, 2-8) did not play Covenant Christian during the regular season.

The winner of the two first-round games at Speedway will face each other on Monday, May 27 at 10 a.m.
