One of the chair themes in this year's Chairish the Children silent auction for Putnam County Family Support services is (above) safari. The event will include 25 chairs donated by people and organizations from around the community and will take place from 4-7:30 p.m. Saturday in conjunction with the Taste of Putnam County at the Dixie Chopper Business Center at the airport.

The third annual Chairish the Children silent auction fundraiser is set for Saturday with one big difference -- this year's event will occur in conjunction with the annual Taste of Putnam County event.

Putnam County Family Support Services director Cari Cox said when the opportunity came up to partner with the Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce, her organization jumped at it.

Several PCFSS board members brought it up at a meeting, so Cox approached Chamber executive director Tammy Johnson.

"Someone mentioned that the Taste would be a great venue for the event. I approached Tammy and she said, sure, that would be great," Cox said.

Cox said both she and Johnson recognized that local businesses and social service agencies work hand in hand and that there is great camaraderie between businesses in supporting such causes.

PCFSS officials also knew the audience the Taste of Putnam County already has would benefit their event.

"Tammy's been doing that for several years and really has everything ironed out for the Taste. I couldn't believe how easily that event appears to come together," Cox said. "This year is fabulous because the Chamber is truly a sponsor for our event. We did not have to get any donations from the community to underwrite our event."

The silent auction will be similar to the past events. Chairs will be on display near the entrance of the Taste event, and bids will be accepted from 4-7:15 p.m.

The Nursery Rhyme chairs are another of the 25 chairs that will be up for bid at the third annual Chairish the Children silent auction fundraiser on Saturday.

There will be 25 chairs available at this year's auction, all decorated and donated by community volunteers. Some chair themes relate to the organizations that donated them -- such as the City of Greencastle's Stellar Communities chair -- while others are simply for fun -- a Super Mario Brothers chair donated by the Putnam County Hospital Radiology Department.

While a number of individuals and organizations have supported this year's auction, Cox was sure to thank Putnam County Hospital for its overwhelming show of support.

All of the chairs are available for viewing in the front window of the Putnam County Family Support Services office or at bannergraphic.com /gallery/16878.

Early bids are also accepted in person at the PCFSS office at 22 W. Washington St. until 5 p.m. Friday.

After bidding closes at 7:15 p.m. Saturday, the winning bids will be announced at 7:30.
