Tiger Cubs compete at Golden Spikes
DECATUR -- The Greencastle co-ed cross country team raced at the Golden Spikes Invitational, hosted at Decatur Central, on Saturday.
Both the boys' and girls' teams finished in second place.
Whiteland Community won the boys' race with 55 points. Greencastle had 64.
"The Decatur course is fast and curvy," GHS coach Garry Anderson said. "There was a lot of good competition."
Tiger Cubs freshman Clayton Wilson finished fourth overall in a time of 17:31, one second ahead of senior teammate Taylor Secrest.
Junior Elijah Brattain finished eighth at 18:00.
"Clayton and Taylor do a great job of using each other during meets," Anderson said. "Braden (Pershing) and Levi (Lewis) did the same at this meet, which will be of great importance as the season progresses."
Pershing (23rd, 18:59) and Lewis (24th, 19:00) are both freshmen.
Sophomore Corrie Romer led the girls' squad for GHS, finishing fourth at 21:31. Junior Brittany Love finished sixth at 21:48 and junior Samantha Haynes finished eighth at 22:16.
"The girls raced well," Anderson said. "Kat (King) really stepped up for being our fifth runner for this meet. They fought Mooresville for the entire race and that is something to be proud of."
Mooreseville, with 40 points, won the event and beat Greencastle by seven.
Sophomore Megan Haynes (14th, 23:04), sophomore Kat King (15th, 23:22) and Alyssa Seeman (51st, 38:08) also ran for GHS.
Greencastle's next meet is Saturday when it hosts the Tiger Cub Invite at 9 a.m.
