Color It Blacktop Lane

Wednesday, October 2, 2013

In a momentary pause in the action Wednesday, a Wabash Valley Asphalt workman takes a welcome break from spreading hot, sticky asphalt while awaiting a dump truck (upper right) to back up and dump another load in front of the paver. The asphalt phase of the ongoing project, like this section of Hilltop Lane just south of Edgelea Drive, has begun in earnest now as Putnam County and property owners in the subdivision just north of Greencastle share the cost of the resurfacing and drainage work in the Edgelea Subdivision.

  • I certainly hope the subgrade under the pavement looks better than it does in the lower right hand corner of the picture! If not, it will fall apart by spring.

  • VolunteerFF--How can you tell from the pic that this paving company doesn't know what they are doing? Can't you say anything good about their work?

  • The subgrade next to the lane they are paving needs work. I do this kind of work all the time. If that is what it looks like under the new asphalt, it won't hold up because they won't be able to get it compacted.
