Lyle C. Monnett

Lyle C. Monnett, 81, Brazil, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013 at St. Vincent Clay Hospital in Brazil.

He was born on Aug. 5, 1932 in Greencastle to Claude and Lena Monnett.

Lyle graduated Cloverdale High School in 1950, received an associate's degree from Liberty Bible College, and attended Trinity Theological Seminary.

He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.

He retired after 30 years of working for General Motors in the Allison's Division, to become an associate pastor at the First Christian Church in Brazil, where he served as a deacon, elder, Sunday school teacher and was involved in many other church activities.

He was also served as the pastor at Otter Creek Christian Church for seven years. Lyle served as the chaplain at St. Vincent Clay Hospital and several of the local jails and prisons.

He enjoyed coaching and being involved in his family's sporting events.

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Robert Monnett, Claude Monnett, Eugene Monnett, James Monnett, Thomas Monnett and Melvin Monnett.

Survivors Include his wife of 59 years, Helen Williams Monnett, Brazil; daughters Lyla Beth (Mark) Schmidt, Indianapolis, and Lisa Helen Kleiber, Brazil; brother, John Paul Monnett, Cloverdale; brother-in-law Harold Williams, Boynton Beach, Fla.; grandchildren, Elle Shannon Kleiber, Samuel Craig Garlits and Carson Dean Kleiber; several nieces, nephews and other extended family.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Moore Funeral Home, Brazil. The family will accept friends Monday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home in Brazil.
