Sunday, October 27, 2013

The Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce has announced that the 2013 Downtown Trick or Treat will take place on Thursday, Oct. 31 from 4-6 p.m.

Along with the fun of trick or treating around the square, there will also be a Trunk or Treat event on Indiana Street (between Walnut and Poplar) in which participants will include the Greencastle Police Dept., Putnam County Sheriff's Dept., Indiana State Police Dept., DePauw Police Dept., Operation Life, Putnam County FOP, Res-Care and Area 30 Law Enforcement Class will all be participating.

Also, right down the street from Trunk or Treat location the Putnam County Public Library will be hosting a Halloween party from 4-6 p.m., where there will be free books for the kids, courtesy of the Friends of the Library.

Meanwhile, individual Putnam County communities have established trick-or-treat hours. All community trick-or-treat hours limit activity to the night of the holiday itself on Thursday, Oct. 31.

Specific community trick-or-treat hours are:

-- Greencastle -- 4-8 p.m. (starting at 4 p.m. due to the downtown event).

-- Fillmore -- 5-8 p.m.

-- Bainbridge -- 6-8 p.m.

-- Roachdale -- 6-8 p.m.

-- Russellville -- 6-8 p.m.

-- Cloverdale -- 6-8:30 p.m.

As is the custom locally, residents welcoming trick-or-treaters are urged to turn on a porch light during the appropriate period. Likewise, Halloween revelers are asked to skip homes without an outside light illuminated.
