Joe and Jan Edwards in concert Nov. 21 at Putnamville church

PUTNAMVILLE -- Joe and Jan Edwards will present an evening of gospel music on Thursday, Nov. 21 at the Putnamville United Methodist Church.

The program will begin at 7 p.m. at the brick church at the intersection of U.S. 40 and State Road 243.

Doors will open at 6:15 p.m. for an evening of music and fellowship. A free-will offering will be taken.

Joe Edwards is a 48-year veteran of the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tenn., having played fiddle in the Opry Staff Band for more than 30 years. He has also regularly appeared on TNN's "Grand Ole Opry Live Show."

Although best known as a fiddle virtuoso, his main instrument is actually guitar. His talent with instruments includes drums, bass, guitar, mandolin, fiddle and banjo.

As a studio musician for more than 30 years in Nashville, Edards has played sessions for Mercury, Columbia, Decca, Capitol and RCA Victor recording companies.

He has worked with producers like Chet Atkins, Owen Bradley, Don Law and Ken Nelson. He also backed up singers like George and Earl, Webb Pierce, Bobby Helms and Ferlin Huskey on his monster hit "Since You're Gone."

In the gospel field Joe has recorded with The Hensons, "Lighthouse," and the Lamar Sego Family, "Hallelujah Square."

Jan Edwards, born in Bloomington, has been singing and acting since she was five. In 1970, she won the Miss Indiana title and followed up that honor with appearances in regional and national commercials.


Currently she performs in Nashville several times a week and travels with Joe presenting the Gitfiddle Review Show."

The couple has toured the U.S. and 15 countries while performing but say they most like to pay tribute to their Lord and Savior by singing and playing gospel music.
