Hubert A. Seller

Hubert "Hugh" A. Seller, DDS, born July 25, 1922, passed away on Friday, Jan. 17, 2014.

Dr. Seller was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Norma Francis Parker, and son, Robert Seller.

He is survived by daughter Vicki Seller, MD, of Salem, Ore.; son Hugh Seller, DDS, of Merrillville, and daughter Carole Seller, RN, of Fairbanks, Alaska.

He is also survived by three grandchildren, Gabriel Bledsoe, Hugh Kim Seller and Frances Seller; sister Martha (Archie) O'Neal and their children, John Thomas O'Neal, Polly O'Neal and their families.

Dr. Seller graduated from Belle Union High School in a class of nine students in the year 1940 and entered Indiana University that same year.

He received his BA in chemistry in 1943 and DDS in 1945 after which he enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant junior grade and served 2½ years, first at Little Creek, Va., amphibious base followed by USS Amphion and finally at Great Lakes, Ill. After leaving the Navy, he spent six months in a dental office in Lafayette before moving to 504 Broadway, Gary. He later moved the office to Merrillville, from which he retired in1991.

Following retirement he taught at IUNW School of Dental Hygiene for a number of years.

Dr. Seller enjoyed people and had a quick wit. He had many friends he treasured. He was an avid golfer until age 91 at the Innsbrook Country Club.

He valued education, loved his alma mater Indiana University, and helped many people with their educational endeavors. All this is evident by the multiple memberships he took active part in: Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, Delta Sigma Fraternity, lifetime member of the American Dental Association and the Indiana State Dental Association, longtime member of Chicago Dental Association, member of Innsbrook Country Club, founding member of the Indiana University Varsity Club, longtime member of the Hoosier Hundred and a lifetime member of the IU Alumni Association.

Private cremation services will be held at Geisen Funeral, Cremation and Reception Centre, Crown Point.
