Helen Louise Wardlow, 78, of Greencastle, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014.

She was born Aug. 27, 1935 in Greencastle to Roy Higgins and Katherine Powers Higgins, a Cherokee Indian family, and was given the Indian name of Morning Star.

Morning Star was a member of the Greencastle Eagles Aerie 4388, and Greencastle Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1592.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Michael Eugene Hamblin; a brother, David Higgins; and a sister, Betty Higgins.

Surviving are her husband, Robert G. Wardlow; three sons, Daniel Hamblin and wife Wanda of Utah, Claude Hamblin and wife Christy of Greencastle, and Floyd Hamblin of Brazil; a daughter, Kathy Davies of Greencastle; a brother, Roy Higgins and wife Liz of Greencastle; two sisters, Opal of Brazil, and Sharon (David) of Cloverdale; aunts and uncles, Anna Marie Haga of Reelsville, Connie (Dave) Trueblood of Greencastle, Charles Higgins and wife Barbara of Cloverdale, Sandy Baker and husband Marvin of Greencastle; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will celebrate Helen's life at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1 at the Greencastle Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1592, 212 W. Franklin St. Chaplain Ron Turner will officiate.

Friends are invited to visit with the family on Saturday from noon until 2 p.m. at the Moose Lodge.

In keeping with Helen's wishes, her body is being donated to medical research at the Indiana University School of Medicine.

Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle, assisted the family with arrangements.
