County Jail

Five people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 10:38 p.m. on Friday, Donnie Dale Sandusky, 41, Poland, was charged with operating while intoxicated.

* At 10:45 p.m. on Saturday, Robert Allen O'Neal, 36, Roachdale, was charged with operating while intoxicated.

* At 11:50 p.m., Jason Scott Wojtyska, 32, Roachdale, was charged with operating while intoxicated.

* At 6:15 p.m. on Monday, Travis Alan Clay, 18, Danville, was charged with probation violation and criminal mischief.

* At 12:13 p.m. on Tuesday, Wanda Faye Price, 32, Indianapolis, was charged with driving on a suspended license.

City Police

Two recent alcohol-related arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police.

-- At 3 a.m. Friday, Eric Speer, 19, Carmel, was stopped at Wood and Washington streets by Officer Matt Huffman. Speer was charged with being a minor in consumption of alcohol after registering an .11 percent blood-alcohol level on a portable breathalyzer.

-- At 3:14 a.m. Saturday, Bonnie Hanlon, 48, Greencastle, was stopped by Officer Kyle Lee on U.S. 231 North for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Lodged in the Putnam County Jail, she registered a .115 percent blood-alcohol level on a portable breathalyzer.

One recent minor mishap was reported by city officers.

-- At 2:59 p.m. Saturday, a one-vehicle accident was reported on the former Marsh Supermarket parking lot off Indianapolis Road.

Officer Ed Wilson reported that Michael Moore, 62, Greencastle, was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado through the lot when he struck a light pole and its concrete base with the passenger's side of the truck.

Total damage was estimated at $1,000-$2,500.

Sheriff's Dept.

Four recent traffic accidents were investigated by Putnam County Sheriff's Department deputies.

* At 2:35 p.m. on Thursday, Gerald C. Carpenter, 80, Greencastle, was stopped at the intersection of County Road 500 East and State Road 240. Meanwhile, Jerry D. Campbell, 54, Greencastle, was stopped at the same intersection.

Carpenter told Chief Deputy Tom Helmer he was attempting to turn onto State Road 240, but observed a vehicle approaching. Thus, he stopped and backed up his 1996 Chevrolet van, failing to see Campbell's 2008 Ford Taurus.

Campbell advised Helmer he was stopped, but did not have enough time to put his vehicle in reverse to avoid Carpenter.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 2:48 p.m. on Friday, Jackie R. Cantonwine, 25, Greencastle, was westbound on State Road 240 East when Zachary C. McKamey, 20, Greencastle, attempted to enter westbound State Road 240 from County Road 500 East.

McKamey advised Sgt. Jon Chadd he was entering westbound from County Road 500 in a 1999 Chevrolet and did not see Cantonwine's 2013 Dodge Charger, striking it in the driver's side.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 1:06 p.m. on Monday, Mary L. Cash, 84, Greencastle, was eastbound on County Road 350 North, approaching County Road 325 West, when a vehicle pulled into the roadway that she was unable to avoid.

Erin R. Bills, 30, Greencastle, told Deputy Matt Biggs she was facing south on County Road 325 West, when she began to turn her 2000 Buick Lesabre onto County Road 350 North.

Bills noted that she did not see Cash in a 2012 Chevrolet Sonic and pulled into her lane of travel.

Cash was transported to Putnam County Hospital with a complaint of chest pain.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 5:54 a.m. on Monday, Jack T. Moorman, 47, Carmel, was driving on U.S. 36 West near County Road 500 North when he looked down to get his coffee and his 2009 Hyundai Sonata ran off the roadway.

Deputy Tyler Turner noted that the driver went off the roadway for approximately 200 feet before coming to a stop in the riprap rocks in front of a guardrail.

Damage was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

Indiana State Police

The Indiana State Police Putnamville District participated in the Operation Pull Over Blitz St. Patrick's Day Aggressive Driving and DUI campaign, which ran from Feb. 28 through March 23.

Utilizing extra patrols and a DUI checkpoint during the campaign, Putnamville troopers compiled the following results:

Traffic tickets -- 534.

Traffic warnings -- 750.

DUI arrests -- 11.

Other alcohol-related arrests -- 7.

Criminal arrests -- 88 with 31 of those felony arrests.

Crashes worked -- 28.

Motorists assisted -- 420.
