DePauw women's lacrosse splits weekend matches

Claire Ludlow's seven goals paced Denison in a 20-8 victory over the Tigers Sunday afternoon at Blackstock Stadium in North Coast Athletic Conference action.

With the win, the Big Red improved to 6-3 overall and 2-1 in NCAC play, while DePauw dropped to 3-6 on the year and 2-2 in the NCAC.

The Tigers took an early lead when Jamie Powell scored on a free position shot just 21 seconds into the game.

Denison would score five straight goals over the next eight minutes to jump in front 5-1 on the Tigers. Emilye Denny's goal on an assist from Carey Kunz would make the score 5-2 with 17:04 left in the half.

Another stretch of four straight Big Red goals made the score 9-2. Denny would score the third Tigers' goal of the day with just 57 seconds left before half on an assist from Powell.

Denison scored two goals to open the second half scoring before Nicole Gibson tallied DePauw's first goal in the half with 27:01 on the clock.

Abigail Snively would find the net on an assist from Taylor Summers to make the score 12-5 with 23:31 remaining.

Following three more Big Red goals the Tigers answered with three of their own. Summers scored on an assist from Gibson with 21:27 on the clock and Emily Scinta's free position goal with 19:59 remaining would make the score 15-7. Powell scored the final Tigers' goal on a free position shot with 14:52 left in the contest.

The Big Red would score five more goals in the closing 13 minutes to make the score 20-8. Ludlow led Denison with seven goals and two assists, while Laura Van Horn made three saves in goal.

Powell and Denny each scored two goals for the Tigers, while Liz Hawkins made nine saves in the loss.

Denison outshot DePauw 41-18 and held a 21-9 advantage in ground balls. The Big Red had 20 draw controls to the Tigers' 10.

The Tigers are back in action Sunday, April 13, when they host Wooster at 11 a.m.

On Saturday, Emilye Denny's goal with 2:18 left in the game propelled the Tigers to a thrilling 14-13 victory over Oberlin in Saturday's North Coast Athletic Conference showdown.

With the win, DePauw improved to 3-5 on the year and 2-1 in the NCAC, while the Yeowomen dropped to 5-2 overall and 1-2 in NCAC play.
