Tiger Cub boys', girls' track team loses 3-way at Monrovia

MONROVIA -- The Tiger Cub track team took on Monrovia and Owen Valley at Monrovia Thursday, but fell short, the boys placing third and the girls coming in second losing by 11. Monrovia won both events.

It was a nice day for personal bests on the boys' side. Five Greencastle athletes beat their own record and Greencastle senior Tanner Wood's discus throw of 142-08 landed him second on Greencastle High School's all-time record list.

"Tanner Wood is really getting better and better each meet," Greencastle coach Garry Anderson said. "Hopefully he will continue to improve at the pace he is going now throughout the season. "

Other personal records for the Tiger Cub boys included freshman Elijah Williams' shot put mark of 46-0, which placed second on Thursday and freshman Spencer Rhine's discus throw of 116-00 which was second behind Wood.

"We had a dry track to run on and we competed well in most events," Anderson said. "Obviously we fell short in the sprints, in the boys races, but our distance crew had some good performances. Williams' throw really moved him up in our record book."

The distance crew had Isaacs Harms setting personal bests in the 800-meter run and the 1600-meter run. He also ran on the first place winning 3200-relay team.

For the girls, Katerina King had another superb outing sprinting, winning first in the 100-meter and 200-meter dash.

"In the girls' meet we competed hard but needed a few more points towards the end to pull out a win over Monrovia," Anderson said. "I was pleased with our 400 and 3200 relays with their wins."

Junior Corrie Romer placed first in the 400-meter dash and the 400-relay team of Bailey Lausee, Erica Hoagland, Sarah Miller, and King came in first.

"Alex Stoffregen ran another good race in the 800 and anchored both the 1600 and 3200 relays," Anderson said. "Freshman Katie Haynes produced better times in the 3200 relay leg she ran as well as her 800 run.

"Corrie Romer is really starting to bring her times down in the 400 and as the opening leg of the 1600 relay."
