Francis I. Berry, 90, of Cloverdale, passed away at The Waters of Greencastle on Thursday, May 8, 2014.

He was born in Cloverdale on March 18, 1924 to Harry Leland Berry and Pearl Marie (Miller) Berry.

He attended Cloverdale Schools and served as a combat medic in World War II, receiving the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.

He retired and moved back to Cloverdale after working as a supervising nurse at the Kalamazoo State Hospital in Kalamazoo, Mich., for more than 25 years.

In addition to being an avid genealogist, he served as official photographer for Cloverdale Township Volunteer Fire Department.

He was also a member of the American Legion and a member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Spencer.

Mr. Berry is survived by his two nephews, Ron Johnson of Bowling Green, Fla., and Cal Johnson of Bradenton, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruth (Woods) Berry in 2002; brother Leland Berry and sisters Margaret Lancaster and Jeanetta Johnson.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday May10 at Whitaker Funeral Home, Cloverdale, following visitation from 1-2 p.m.
